Road Trip Purchases For The Kids: What my kids need to keep them happy along the way.

As I’ve mentioned, we’re heading out on a Cross Country Road Trip, and so as I cruised along Pinterest I took note of different opinions when it comes to traveling with kids. Some families hopped on planes, some rented RV’s, and some, like my family, opted to hop in the family car and head to the closest  hotel for a nice, comfy rest between small towns and big cities. However, no matter the differences in travel, I did notice a repeating theme about keeping kids happy, or at least mellow, along the trip so that everyone, including the parents, could enjoy the vacation.

(On a side note, kids don’t need toys to be happy, but while traveling 5 to 10 hours a day for a month, I think we can all agree that a couple extra items to carry along on a ride can help to keep kids engaged and happy memories for all)

A Few Items I’ve Purchased For Our Travels So Mom Can Remain Sane:

National Geographic Kids Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas

  1. The National Geographic Kids Ultimate U.S. Road Trip Atlas

I can’t wait for the kids to get their hands on this. The pictures are gorgeous and this will certainly give us something to chat about while we drive the thousands of miles it will take us to reach these awesome destinations. We might even use some of these pics in our scrapbooks.

ALEX Toys Artist Studio Desk To Go

2. The ALEX Toys Artist Studio Desk To Go

I ordered two of these desks, one for each kid. They both enjoy drawing/writing so I hope these will work for them as we pass beautiful scenery that they want to capture.

Crayola 25 Count Pip-Squeaks Kit

3. Crayola 25 Count Washable Pip-Squeaks Kit

As an Exceptional Ed teacher, I absolutely love the size of these markers. When a child is struggling with finger placement on writing materials, you can try smaller size items which actually promote correct finger placement. And, the fact that these come in a carrying case makes it even more awesome for this mom and my kids.

4. Little Items They Love

My kids are all about little toy figures they can dance around, fling across a room, and play pretend with. This trip we’re going with My Little Ponies and Plants Vs Zombies. I can’t wait to hear all the fun adventures these little toys will have.

5. Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Instant Film Camera

I am absolutely thrilled to have purchased this little beauty! I can’t wait for the kids to start snapping pics to add to their daily scrapbook/journals. I’m pretty sure this is gonna be one well used item on our road trips.

So, there we have it, just a few items I’ve picked up along the way while preparing for our family vacation. What items do your kids enjoy taking on family outings?
